The Music Time in Africa Archive is a custom-built interface to digitized radio programs (1966-1996) and the associated scripts (if available). The interface supports search across the text of the scripts and browsing through some of the metadata fields.
The Voice of America broadcasts a one-hour version of Music Time in Africa on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The current host is Heather Maxwell, an ethnomusicologist and experienced music professional specializing in African music.

All radio programs digitized as part of the grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, including both the audio segment and the script, if available, plus metadata for each program, are available online to the University of Michigan community through a dedicated media service.
Leo Sarkisian Field Recordings at Michigan (Finding Aid)
Leo Sarkisian traveled throughout Africa and Central Asia with professional sound equipment provided by Tempo Records in Hollywood, CA, which had hired Leo to obtain music for films set in “exotic” locales. Working fifty years as a VOA employee, Leo recorded music in over thirty-eight African nations from Senegal to Ethiopia.
