UM-Flint is located in beautiful downtown Flint, and the Thompson Library is at the center of campus, near the corner of E. Kearsley and Harrison Streets. 

Parking

On campus

The nearest parking to the Thompson Library is the Pavilion Parking Deck and requires a permit. The entrance is located at 300 Harrison St, Flint, MI 48502. Parking on the 2nd level has plenty of disability spaces available and provides easy access to the skywalk that connects directly to the library.

Students, faculty, and staff: Contact DPS to get or renew your permit
Visitors to the library: Please email us to request a one-day Visitor Parking Permit. (For visiting other places or offices on campus, please contact the unit you are planning to visit.)

If the Pavillion Parking Deck is closed, additional parking and disability spaces are available in Harrison Street Parking Lot T. More information about campus parking

Off campus

Off-campus parking is available on Harrison St and around downtown. The closest parking lot is the Flat Lot, for a fee. The entrance to the Flat Lot is at 125 E Kearsley St, Flint, MI 48502

Entering the Library

A valid MCard is required to enter the building after 6 p.m. weekdays and on Sundays.

The entrance to the library is through the glass doors on the third floor of the library building. Staff at the circulation desk will be available to answer any questions!

  • From the Pavilion Parking Deck (2nd floor)
    • From the second level, take the skywalk into the library building. Follow the corridor past the archives and vending machines and take either the elevator or stairs to the 3rd floor where you will see the glass doors, the only entrance and exit of the library. 
  • From the ground level
    • Enter through the big brass doors on the 1st floor. Take the elevator or stairs up to the 3rd floor where you will see the glass doors, the only entrance and exit of the library. 
  • From the skywalks
    • There is a skywalk on the 3rd floor from French Hall that leads you directly to the glass doors entrance to the library.
    • There is a skywalk on the 2nd floor from the Pavillion Parking Deck. Follow the corridor past the archives and vending machines and take either the elevator or stairs to the 3rd floor where you will see the glass doors, the only entrance and exit of the library.
       

Borrowing

Students, faculty and staff can use their MCard to borrow materials from the library.

Alumni and guests must purchase a card to be able to check out items. More information about borrowing materials

Computer Access

Students, Staff, Faculty

ITS workstations are available in the library for use. You can also bring your own devices and connect to wifi, or check out a laptop to use for a few hours.

Visitors

Guests are welcome to bring their own device and connect to the MGuest wifi network.

Thompson Library does not have any public computers at this time. Public computers and printing is available at the Flint Public Library, just down the street. Hours, address, and more information is available at their website. 

Visiting researchers who need to use our databases can make arrangements to use a computer. Please email us to set up an appointment.

Genesee Historical Collections Center (GHCC)

The GHCC is the archive for the University of Michigan-Flint. It is located on the second floor of the Frances Willson Thompson Library. Visit any time during the GHCC open hours, or make an appointment. You can also check out the digital archives.
