Posted on behalf of Dr. Jennifer Dean, Director of the Thompson Library.

Jennifer DeanIt's October in Michigan! We all know this means autumn leaves, cooler temperatures...and library and archives appreciation. Oh, it's true, everyday is a good day to appreciate our library and the role it plays in our lives and our community! But, October is our time to shine. It is both Michigan Library Appreciation Month, a statewide observance sponsored by the Michigan Library Association (MLA) and libraries of all types across the state, and American Archives Month, when archives across the country raise awareness of the importance of historic documents and records, and just show off the cool things in their collections.

This October, we'd love to learn more about the ways you appreciate and support our library and archives, and all the amazing people who work here! We have lots of ways to help you do this. If you're in the library in person, leave a note on our white board near the entrance. Or, share a post about why you love going to the library and the library and archives services you appreciate most of all using the hashtags #LetsGOLibraries, #MILibraryMonth, and #ArchivesMonth – and don’t forget to follow us and tag us on social media (Facebook, Instagram @umflintlibrary, and YouTube)! If you tag the Michigan Library Association on Facebook: @MIchiganLibraryAssociation! - on Facebook or Instagram with a photo of your favorite library spaces or resources and why you love going to your library, MLA could share your post! Again, make sure you use the hashtags #MILibraryMonth #LetsGOLibrary #ArchivesMonth.

I'd also love to hear from you personally. Please do stop in to talk with me at our first Drop In with the Director event on Wednesday, October 23 from 1-2 pm. This is a great opportunity to meet us, learn more about what we do, and most of all, let me know if there are things you'd like us to consider adding or changing about our library. True appreciation includes honest feedback!
