With great sadness, we at the Thompson Library, would like to share with you the news of the sudden passing of our colleague and friend Vanessa Prygoski, Senior Associate Librarian, on February 12, 2018.

Vanessa was hired in 2000 by the Thompson Library and worked with great dedication toward helping all members of UM-Flint community. She worked closely with the Social Work, Music, Education, Women's and Gender Studies, and Africana Studies departments as liaison librarian, and taught information literacy classes for many other departments. She was fiercely committed to the cause of equality and rights for marginalized people. She performed annually in the Vagina Monologues and the Coming Out Monologues. Her recent presentation at Michigan Library Association Queering the Academic Library and her work with the Ellen Bommarito LGBTQ Center, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Women’s Commission are proof of this commitment. Vanessa graduated from University of Michigan School of Information in 1990 with her MLIS degree.

A memorial will be held in the Library Atrium on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, from 4:30 pm- 6 pm. The official program will begin at 5 pm. We hope you will join us in remembering Vanessa.

She will be missed.
