As winter gives way to spring, our Seed Library is flourishing, thanks to the enthusiasm and participation of our campus and community members. We’re excited to share some updates on our progress, recap our recent Seed Swap event, and invite you to our upcoming Seed Starting Workshop.

Since launching, the Seed Library has continued to grow, both in available seeds and in community engagement. Students, faculty, staff, and community members have checked out a variety of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds, preparing for a productive growing season. We have continued working with the Seed Libraries on both the Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses to foster new ideas and collaboration with other organizations. We have updated our Seed Library page with helpful tips and resources so be sure to check those out.

We appreciate all the support and encourage everyone to explore the collection, “check out” seeds, and contribute seeds if possible.

Seed Swap Success

Our recent Seed Swap event was a success. We had a great turnout with students, staff, faculty, and community members attending. Participants exchanged a diverse array of seeds and cuttings, sharing gardening tips, and fostering connections with fellow plant enthusiasts. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event so vibrant and engaging. If you missed it, don’t worry we will host another event on April 10th.

Upcoming Events

Seed Starting Workshop

Want to get a head start on your garden? Join us for our Seed Starting Workshop on Wednesday, March 26, from 5:00 – 6:30 pm on the 3rd floor of the library near the Circulation Desk. This hands-on workshop will guide you through the basics of starting seeds indoors. We will provide the seed starting soil, the containers, and a wide variety of flowers, herbs, and vegetable seeds to choose from. Whether you have a large garden or will grow your plants in your window or on a patio there will be something for you.

Registration is required, so be sure to sign up in advance to secure your spot.

Seed and Cutting Swap

Our third Seed and Cutting Swap will be Thursday April 10, from 5:00 – 6:30 pm on the 3rd floor of the library near the Circulation Desk. This event is open to all, whether you have seeds to swap or not.

Thank you for growing with us, and we look forward to seeing you at the Seed Starting Workshop.
