Entrance to the Reflection Room in the libraryThis Fall we partnered with Recreational Services to find a space in the library for a Reflection Room, which had previously been located next to Clint's Café in the University Center. According to Jessica Viertlboeck, Assistant Director of Fitness, "With the cafe's renovations and [with] it being a popular space for students to hang out and listen to music, play games and host presentations/events, we were looking for a quieter space that students could use for prayer and meditation." Recreation Services staff reached out to the library, and we worked together to find a space in the library would be more appropriate for the Room. After touring two spaces in the library, we settled on an small, unused office on the third floor as it would be easier for students to find. "With room 314 being located on the main level, the amount of students and foot traffic the library gets, as well as it being centrally located, it would be our best option," Viertlboeck said.

It is equipped with lower light, a bean bag chair, electrical outlets, shelves for non-personal storage, yoga mats, and prayer rugs. This space is perfect students who need a space for quiet reflection, prayer, meditation, or sensory decompression. It is private but not reservable. There is an additional Reflection Room in the White Building in room 4152A. Both rooms are available to all students whenever the buildings are open.

The Library will be working with the University's Facilities and Property Disposition to remove some of the unneeded office furniture in the coming semester.
