by Paul Streby on 2025-04-15T15:55:21-04:00 | 0 Comments

This month, we have a couple new databases we've added to our A-Z list, and a major upgrade to an existing one. First, the new ones…

Vanderbilt University Television News Archive
Transcripts of nightly news programs broadcast by the national television networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) since August 5, 1968, with some video clips freely available; other clips available for loan for a fee. The collection includes brief summaries of nightly news programs broadcast by the national television networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) since August 5, 1968, along with regularly scheduled newscasts from CNN (since 1995) and Fox News (late 2000s). For purposes of reference, study, classroom instruction, and research.

Data.gov Archive
This is a repository is maintained by the Harvard Law School Library Innovation Lab as part of a project to preserve U.S. federal public data. Other mirror sites are available on UM Ann Arbor's page United States Government Information > Finding Missing Government Websites.

We've had the browser extension LibKey Nomad available for students, faculty, and staff for several years. It helps you gain access to scholarly articles quickly and easily, avoiding many paywalls, when you're on the open web. Even though we liked this product, we recently upgraded to…

LibKey Nomad++
We’re very excited about this one! LibKey Nomad++ is available for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Brave, and Vivaldi browsers. Once you download the version for your browser, select the University of Michigan-Flint as your organization.

Once installation is complete, compatible databases will display clickable icons for the full text of the article, often with only one click. When available, it also displays icons linking to the issue of the journal in which the article appears. Example from PubMed

If you're unsure how to get LibKey Nomad++, a short video tutorial is available. (It’s about the older version of LibKey Nomad, but it can help you get started.)

We'll have more news and information about LibKey Nomad++ in the Fall, so stay tuned!
